Backstory: A couple weeks ago, my aunt asked me to join her on a crochet cruise next year. I've never been on one before, and considering I spend a significant amount of my time crocheting, I didn't hesitate to jump on the bandwagon. As I was reading up on the cruise, I found out the Crochet Crowd - the group that sponsors the cruise and sets up the group rate for the cruise, crochet classes on-board, etc. - plans a charity element to the cruise. And that means we all have homework: to make up and bring 9 squares of the charity blanket pattern that year. The idea is to bring your squares and swap them with other crocheters on the cruise and stitch up a blanket made with love by 9 different people, and then donate that blanket to a charitable organization of your choice.

I have until February to finish my 9 squares, but I've got 4 made up already and thought I would go ahead and share how they're looking.

Designer: Michael Sellick

Yarn Used: Red Heart Super Saver / Red Heart With Love

4 completed celebration squares: pink and purple, green and purple, blue and green, and green and yellow.

They may look pretty, but I have to confess: I didn't get it right the first time around. I attempted this pattern before Michael filmed the video tutorial, and misread the pattern. I was also trying to read the pattern off my phone instead of printing it out which really didn't help the situation either. If you look at the photo below, you can see that I got my colors mixed up halfway through. And if you look at the back of the square, I crocheted over top of the ring of front post treble crochets instead of in front of it. Not that the instructions weren't clear; I just didn't read them carefully enough. No worries though. Someone else who is going on the cruise gave me the idea to turn it into a pillow to commemorate the trip. Holding on to that thought for now. Let's see what I eventually decide...
