Time for another Vanessa original! For those of you up on the latest (or not so anymore) Disney+ shows, you'll recognize this amigurumi as "the kid" aka "Baby Yoda" from The Mandalorian. Full confession: I've never watched the show, but Baby Yoda memes showed up EVERYWHERE and even I have to admit he's SO. CUTE.

A close friend of mine (who also crochets) asked me if I could figure up a pattern for a Baby Yoda plushie so she could make Christmas gifts for her family. Later that evening, I had a first prototype and a few pages of scribbled notes that were "good enough" for her to run with. I even posted the notes to my Instagram, so others could make one if they wanted to. Since then, I've made a few improvements to the pattern, focusing specifically on getting his adorable giant ears right.

So...the moment you've all been waiting for: here's the Baby Alien amigurumi pattern!

Baby Alien Amigurumi Pattern

  • This project uses the ever-increasing circle [video tutorial link below], so no slip stitching needed unless I explicitly say to do so.

  • When pattern says to repeat around, repeat all stitches listed between the two *’s

  • This project can be done with any weight yarn. For the prototyped baby alien, I used Red Heart SuperSaver yarn with a 4.5mm hook. For the large-eared version, I used dk weight yarn I had leftover from other projects (Quince & Co. Chickadee for the head, hands, and ears; and Kelbourne Woolens Scout for his cloak). Have fun with the colors!

  • I do not yet have video tutorials for all the stitches used, but watch for an update to this page as I plan to film the entire making of this pattern.

Assembly

Place safety eyes 3 rows from the bottom of the head. Stuff the head and the body and sew together using the long tail from the body. Sew on the arms (do not stuff!) at sides, 2 or 3 rows from the top of the body. Sew on the collar with the round end on top at the front - really take your time with this one! Lastly, sew on the ears (do not stuff!) at the sides of the head. Knot off all ends and bury them in the body of the toy. You're done! :)
